The President's Corner By Bud Hughes K4CWG The election of and the installation of officers for the Titusville Amateur Radio Club for the New
Year 2006 brings our club at least one new face. We welcome Cathy KI4GMF as our Secretary
and we are delighted to have her in our midst. Becky KF4HTC has been serving the dual roll as
Secretary /Treasurer of our club and has performed a wonderful job administering the two
positions. By way of recommendation from Becky separate ballots were cast for the two offices.
Cathy KI4GMF was elected as our new Secretary and Becky was re-elected and will continue to
serve as Treasurer of our club. Ozzie N4SCY was elected to fill the office of Vice President. Jose
KC4VIO was elected to and will serve on the Board of Directors. A new face will on the board
this year, Gary W4RBI. Our special thanks to John KE4ZPA for his service to his club as a
Board Member during the year 2005 and before . The Orlando Hamcation is the 10th, 11th and 12th of February. As in years gone by our club has
purchased 2 swap tables ($40.00 per table). The tables will be in the same building as last year. The President's Corner Con't Club members are welcome to place on the table any items they wish to sell. Donations to the
club for sales from the table will help defray the expense (purchase price) of the swap tables. If you plan to attend the Orlando Hamfest, Sherry KU4ZO has advance tickets to the event. The
advance tickets may be purchased for $8.00 each. The price at the door will be $10.00 each. There are several of our members who will be camping the weekend of the Hamcation.
Although pre-registration is not required it might expedite your entry into the campgrounds if
you pre-register. The camp-fee is $22.00 per night. Limited sites with water and electricity are
available on a first come basis. For registered campers there is a dump station available for your
use. Remember at the clubs swap table there will be world decisions made and if you want your input
to be considered you must be there. The club table will serve as a rendezvous where you can rest
your heels and temporarily store those hard to find jewels you purchased while you continue to
search for other items you just cannot do without. The annual Melbourne Hamfest is scheduled to be October 14th and 15th. Hopefully by moving
the Hamfest up from September to October a hurricane will be less likely. Our next club meeting is January 24th. Hope to see you there, bring a friend. 73's Bud K4CWG The Vice Squad By Ozzie Osband N4SCY Since I wasn't at the November meeting where I was elected to once again be your Vice
President, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me. And for those of
you who voted against me, I just want to congratulate you on your good sense, but the majority,
I'm afraid, won out. As Vice President, I have the responsibility to come up with the Program for our meetings. If you
have any ideas on what meeting topics you'd like to see presented (or if YOU want to present
something to the club), please drop me an e-mail: N4SCY@AMSAT.ORG The topic for the January meeting will be Message Handling. It's something that every ham can
do, and that each ham should know HOW to do. The speaker will be Roy Hill W6QCM, who is
president of LISATS, the Launch Information Service and Amateur Television System, which
most people know for operating the K4GCC Repeater on 146.940 MHz with NASA Select audio
on it. Roy will give us an overview of the National Traffic System, and how to pass messages into and
out of the NTS. I hope to see you at the meeting! 73's Ozzie PS from the Former Vice Prez Happy New Year fellow Hams! One more Christmas Season has come and gone. It was a
rejoicing one with family gatherings and celebrations, greeting cards, telephone calls and tons of
e-mail from those who are so important in our lives. Santa Claus visited our home and left us
many presents under the aging tree that has gone up for many years. The decorated yard
illuminated the nights and a large lighted star on top of the antenna tower reminded us of the true
meaning of the Season. The addition of a pair of deer brought the yard alive with the buck's
constant head movements. There was one event, however, that I will always remember with humility and sincere
appreciation. The recognition of my peer radio amateurs selecting me as Ham of the Year was
unexpected. I accepted this honor in the name of each and every one of you. It is you who has
made TARC a success for many years. May our club continue to prosper and serve our
community with your dedicated cooperation. José, KC4VIO Abell's Anecdotes By Pike Abell W4EPU Every year between Christmas and New Years Clara and I go out somewhere for supper. This
year being no exception. Normally beforehand we discuss it, considering the pros and cons
regarding the various eateries, the kind of food - American, Italian, Chinese, turf or sea food, etc. This year, still being somewhat in the holiday spirit, and in an effort to save her some money, I
took it upon myself to surprise Clara and take her some place where the food is good yet
reasonably priced. When we left home she had no idea where we were having supper out this
year. The element of surprise for her somewhat diminished when we drove into Arby's parking lot.
She was pleased, knowing it would probably cost her no more than ten bucks. But the real
surprise was yet to come. I was apprehensive when she ordered first, but she played right into
my hands by ordering a beef n' cheddar sandwich. That was my cue to spring forth my second
and bigger surprise. I produced a buy-one-get-one-free beef n' cheddar sandwich coupon. With our sandwich we each had a Jamocha milk shake. With credit for the coupon and no tip
being necessary, it only cost her six bucks, tax and all. I felt quite proud of myself, going to the
effort in a way to save her a considerable amount of money compared to eating at a place where
she would have paid not only the full price but tax and gratuity as well.. The above is just one example of some of the nice things I do for my YL and fellow Ham during
the holiday seasons. A belated Happy New Year, 73s es 88s Pike. VIP Net Control Needed! Stephanie K4MVO has asked to be relieved as Net Control for the VIP Net on Thursday morning
at 10 AM on 146.91. She has done a fantastic job for several years, but now needs more time to
follow her new passion - public school education. Her latest Technician training class at the
Great Outdoors looks like another winner. Way to go Steff! We really need someone to step
foward and take over the VIP Net Control duties. If you are interested, please contact Bud
K4CWG at 269-2796 or Bob W4YBI at 633-5664. Official Emergency Station by the ARRL.
That means he has been certified equipped and
available to handle traffic during an emergency
even if it means operating HF on battery power.
Allan brought considerable emergency COM
experience with him from New York when he
joined TARC two years ago. Now he'll have an
opportunity to show his stuff. Meanwhile, his
lovely bride Judy is recuperating from a broken
hip. She fell and suffered the fracture before
Christmas and has undergone surgery and a tough
recovery. We look forward to seeing her smiling face soon at a TARC meeting.
