We pause to honor the memory of Les Griner, K4SJC.
By Bill Hoskinson K4CUO
For more than 50 years, K4SJC was the best known, most respected and the best loved ham radio call in Titusville. Les Griner was everybody's Elmer. He fixed our radios, kept our repeaters working and gave away parts and gear to anyone who needed it. He was my Elmer, and he was my Mentor.
Les loved ham radio. More than that, he loved his friends. And everyone he met was his friend. I was fortunate to know him for 30 years, and I never heard Les Griner say anything bad about anyone.
The Amateur's Code, found in the ARRL Handbook, says an amateur should be Considerate, Loyal, Progressive, Friendly, Balanced, and Patriotic. They must have had Les Griner in mind when they wrote the Amateur's Code. K4SJC was the role model for an amateur radio operator. He was a ham's ham.
Although we know he suffers no more, it hurts to think of him as a Silent Key.
The memories we have of this wonderful man will be his legacy to the Titusville Amateur Radio Club. K4SJC was the heart and soul of amateur radio in Titusville.
The President's Corner By Bud Hughes, K4CWG
The loss of Mr. Lester Griner K4SJC on July 22nd at 4:00PM was truly a loss to all of us Who knew this wonderful man.
From the day in September of 1977 when I first met this fellow ham I knew he was a special individual. Over the years that I have had the pleasure of knowing this friend he has been like a brother to me.
To the many friends who were unable to attend the memorial services for Les, I must tell you the chapel was filled to the maximum.
I want to thank the officials of the North Brevard Funeral Home for their professionalism and kindness shown to the relatives and friends of this dear departed loved one.
Across the airwaves a signal was heard.
Tune him in, tune him in was the word.
Was it on 80, 40 or 10?
Give that VFO a gentle spin.
QRZ, QRZ please give us your call
Is this the man that stood so tall?
That all who knew him can easily recall.
That wonderful chuckle we miss so dear
His loving wife he now is near
Whose journey through this life is done.
Our loss and heaven's gain we would never shun.
Until the day when we hear his voice so clear
We will pray for a Heavenly steer.
Rest in peace our dearest friend
Leaving behind where you have been
Steps on Jacob's ladder for many a friend.
May we climb the rungs and some day meet?
Gathering at last at our Savior's Feet.
God saw the roads were getting rough
The hills were hard to climb
He closed those loving eyes and whispered
"Peace be thine" K4CWG Bud Hughes
The Vice Squad By Jose` Ramos KC4VIO
We are most fortunate to have in our midst many members with exceptional knowledge they are willing to share with everyone. Such was the case during our July meeting. John, K1KSC, gave an excellent presentation about one more amateur radio activity. Internet Radio Link Project -IRLP for short - easily could become the wave of the future in amateur communications. It works just like a world wide two meter repeater. Can you think of anything that could be better? Contact John for additional information. He would be tickled pink to get you headed in the right direction.
You will not want to miss the August 23rd meeting. Our own Captain Bob (aka Ringo), W4YBI, will by hosting our 2005 auction. Items will go to the highest bidder and we expect the bidding action with be fierce. I cannot tell you what will be available for sale, but if it is anything like last year - brace yourself, the sky's the limit!
It will take every one of you pack rate to make the auction a success. You may donate items to be auctioned. For those things you want to get rid of, but consider too valuable to give away, just make a donation to TARC from your proceeds. You will be able to set a minimum starting bid, so do not fear.
Come early so you can browse the goodies before the auction starts. Our gracious secretary/treasurer will keep track of who does what as she did last year.
The September meeting will bring another mystery speaker. Be there to learn all you can about lightning protection for your valuable equipment.
Hasta la vista amigos, Jose` KC4VIO
Abell's Anecdotes By Pike Abell W4EPU
Over the years I have been exposed to much more information than I could possibly have absorbed Even though my memory bank is somewhat fragmented, the following are some of the things I retained.
I'VE LEARNED THAT:
Silent company is often more healing than words of advice.
Wherever I go the worlds worst drivers have accompanied me there.
There are people who love you dearly but don't know how to show it.
Children and grandparents are natural allies.
You can tell a lot about a man by the way he handles small children, lost luggage and tangled Christmas tree lights.
Regardless of your relationship with your parents, you miss them terribly after they are gone.
Whenever I decide something with kindness, I usually make the right decision.
If someone says something unkind about me, I must live so that no one will believe it.
If you want to do something positive for your children, try to improve yourself.
Even when I have pains, I don't have to be one.
If you want to cheer yourself up, you should try cheering someone else up.
If you laugh and drink cola at the same time, it will come out your nose, and you will sneeze.
Everyone can use a prayer.
The older I get, the less attention I get.
And finally, I've learned that I still have a lot to learn.

Annual Auction August 23rd - Buy, Sell and Enjoy!
JULY MINUTES by KF4HTB Becky Lee
After calling the meeting to order, President Bud Hughes K4CWG introduced Bill Hoskinson K4CUO who eulogized Les Griner K4SJC. His emotion was shared by all who knew and loved Les. His passing has left a big hole in the heart of everyone.
After the pledge and moment of silence, Jose KC4VIO introduced John K1KSC who told the members about something new in ham radio - namely IRLP - Internet Radio Linking Project - which is similar to Echolink. Their website - IRLP.net - will give you much information. There was a lively question and answer period following the presentation.
Everyone was reminded that August is our annual auction of surplus items, and everyone was urged to bring in their excess items to be auctioned off. You may donate all - or part of the proceeds to the club.
Mic Woltman Named 146.91 Trustee
The Board of Directors of the Titusville Amateur Radio Club has voted unanimously to name Mic Woltman KI4CFA trustee of the 146.91 repeater succeeding the late Les Griner. Mic could not attend the meeting because of his duties involving a scheduled rocket launch at The Kennedy Space Center. However, he sent a written statement to the board which said, "I would be honored to be appointed trustee for the 146.91 repeater in honor of Les. I feel we should keep his work and dreams for ham radio alive."
The board also approved a recorded announcement to be made at 4 PM daily on the repeater which will identify the machine as "the Les Griner Memorial Repeater."
